These exciting events brought science, technology and iCULTURE project closer to the general public, captivating <strong>thousands of<\/strong> participants, including <strong>students, families, and non-scientists curious individuals.<\/strong><\/p><p>In Trondheim, NTNU introduced a groundbreaking interactive demonstration to make complex concepts of microbial cell factories accessible to non-scientists. NTNU role is at the core of iCULTURE\u2019s research, and consists in the development of electronic systems, analytical methods, machine learning algorithms, and cybernetics to interact with bacteria and control their growth and behaviour in real-time in a reactor. To explain this cutting-edge research and its challenges, <strong>NTNU created an engaging and interactive game<\/strong>: the participants needed to maintain the reactor in green condition (green colour), despite the random addition of acids and base, which shift the reactor colour to either blue or red, both dangerous to the microbial cells. While an AI software corrected the reactor&#8217;s state in less than 15 seconds, the players competed against the AI to see if they could stabilise the reactor faster, making the experience <strong>both educational and fun<\/strong>. <strong>The stand attracted much attention from more than 12000 high school students from all over the district, who were fascinated by the combination of software development, biotechnology, chemistry, and electrical engineering<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Meanwhile, in Frascati and\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frascatiscienza.it\/notte-europea-dei-ricercatori-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leaf project<\/a>,<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\">FVA New Media Research<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\"> team led activities that <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\">engaged over 850 young people and families<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">. They organized an <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\">interactive quiz about<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\"> the wonders of <\/span><strong style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif;\">seaweed<\/strong><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">, their curious applications and role in sustainability.
