The Summer School is organised by the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Lab at the Technical University of Crete.<\/p><p>The programme will take place from <strong>18 to 27 May 2026<\/strong>, in an <strong>online format<\/strong>, with <strong>daily sessions<\/strong> from <strong>14:00 to 16:00 CEST<\/strong>. It is open to <strong>BSc, MSc and PhD students<\/strong> from relevant disciplines.<\/p><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>ABOUT THE SUMMER SCHOOL<br \/><\/strong><\/span>The Summer School \u201cMacroalgae biorefineries in the circular bioeconomy: technologies, innovation and sustainability\u201d aims to provide an integrated and interdisciplinary overview of <strong>sustainable macroalgae biorefineries<\/strong>, combining scientific, technological and sustainability perspectives within the framework of the circular bioeconomy.<\/p><p>The programme is structured across different thematic areas:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Macroalgae as a renewable biomass resource<\/strong>, including cultivation systems, harvesting strategies, and supply chain considerations.<\/li><li><strong>Conversion technologies and product pathways<\/strong>, from biochemical and thermochemical processes to high-value compounds and bio-based materials.<\/li><li><strong>Emerging bioprocess innovations<\/strong>, including advances in enzyme engineering and microbial cell factories.<\/li><li><strong>Sustainability and systems assessment<\/strong>, with emphasis on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), environmental performance, and techno-economic and policy dimensions.<\/li><li><strong>Future perspectives and science communication<\/strong>, addressing scale-up challenges and effective dissemination of research in sustainability-driven innovation.<\/li><\/ul><p>The Summer School will feature <strong>10 lectures delivered by leading experts from academia, industry and business<\/strong>, providing both theoretical foundations and applied perspectives.<\/p><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1dei8IKKhpEPfzGAqswhdvkPPeaphVHpA\/view?usp=drive_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Have a look at the agenda<\/a> for details <\/strong>on topics, speakers, times and dates!<\/p><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>WHY PARTICIPATE<br \/><\/strong><\/span>Participants will have the opportunity to:<\/p><ul><li>Acquire advanced knowledge on macroalgae-based biorefineries<\/li><li>Understand the full value chain, from biomass production to end products<\/li><li>Explore real-world applications and case studies<\/li><li>Develop interdisciplinary competences relevant to the bioeconomy and circular economy<\/li><li>Engage with an international network of researchers and practitioners<\/li><\/ul><p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">HOW TO APPLY<\/span><br \/><\/strong>Applications are open <strong>until 10 May 2026<\/strong>.
